It doesn’t matter which way you’re looking, sometimes life is gonna smack you one clean in the face. Sometimes it leaves you dizzy and struggling to defend yourself but sometimes you need that slap in the bouche to wake you up and realise what you’ve got and where you’re going. Life seems to be all about rolling with the punches. We gain our strength through our perseverance. We never know how strong we are until something tests us. Churchill once said; “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” “Victory is always possible for the person who refuses to stop fighting.” said american writer, Napoleon Hill. These quotes push me through each fracas, whilst Mary Shelley’s outlook of; “The beginning is always today.” reminds me that every moment of every day could be the start of something brilliant. You’ve just got to fight for it.

I have been reunited with my thick, knitted jumpers and the switch on the wall says ‘Heating: On’. My toes get wet through my trainers when I’m walking the dog but there’s something very comfortable and protective about a thick fog. The world is quietened but not quelled. The panorama transforms into a mysterious new microcosm and I always get a childish sense of excitement at the thought of exploring this undiscovered world, although my ears are ever open in anticipation of the Silent Hill siren.

I often think of my Grandad around Remembrance day. I think of the stories he had about Burma, what he went through and I regret not spending more time with him. I am indebted to him as we all are indebted to those who give us freedom and help us grow. It’s a sad but thankful remembrance.
